VR4 tuning

The Galant first appeared back in 1969. It was not until 1987 that a high powered version appeared with the 2. turbo engine producing 200 bhp.

In order to compete in the WRC Mitsubishi produced the VR4 a highly tuned road going version while using 4G63 engine.

Tuning articles and tips

This formed the basis of the later Lancer Evo and is a well known engine choice for FTO owners.

The long run on this engine makes certain that there are plenty of mods and tuning parts accessible for it. The engines are reliable and solid and can tolerate a lot of additional power until you need to make internal engine modifications.

By 1996 we saw Mitsubishi turn its attention returning to the Galant VR-4 and they also introduced a 2.5 litre V6 engine – the 6A13TT. This needs to be the engine of choice with regards to the tuner goes.

For those who have a standard Galant we would suggest that you uprate the brakes and suspension using VR4 spec replacements where available.
